Produced mainly in China, and grown within Mussels instead of Oysters, fresh water pearls were once only available only in the form of small, irregularly-shaped "rice pearls". They are now being produced in symmetrical shapes and a variety of sizes, and are attractive enough to give the pricier saltwater cultured pearls a run for their money!
